Rose Island Light in Newport, Rhode Island, is one of the small number of New England lighthouses where you can spend the night.
This beautifully restored gem is managed by the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation.
Some people who have spent the night, as well as some volunteers and staff of the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation, have experienced strange things in the lighthouse and also around the nearby barracks of Fort Hamilton -- disembodied footsteps on the stairs, voices, and more.
The TV show Ghost Hunters spent the night a while back, with some intriguing results.
The photo below was taken by Nancy Grautski, who spent a night at the lighthouse. It was taken just before sunset.
The photo appears to show a large figure standing near the light, with an outstretched arm reaching toward the left. Nancy was inside the lantern room, not outside, which would seem to eliminate the possibility that she photographed her own reflection. She says that only she and a friend were there, and they're both small women who don't resemble the figure in the photo.
Is this the spirit of longtime keeper Charles Curtis (right), the man in charge of the light 1887-1918? Some think he still watches over the place, even though he died many years ago. What do you think?
I am pretty sure this is a reflection. You can see the outside railing reflected in the bead board wall beneath the windows and above the stool.
ReplyDeleteWhy the need for a silly paranormal focus? The history and beauty of the lighthouse should be more than enough to attract visitors.
